This is an in-depth review of all popular Google Workspace cloud backup vendors in 2023. In this guide, we have compiled all our findings from an in-depth, feature-based, product review of Google Workspace backup apps to help you choose a backup solution.
According to a 2019 report published by Google, over 6 a million businesses were paying for G Suite and Google Cloud services. As of August 2020, Google Cloud’s annual revenue hits a whopping $22.16 billion. That’s a 45% growth compared to the previous year!
S&P Global Market Intelligence concluded that over 70% of businesses relying on cloud applications like Google Workspace Suite do not have a backup solution in place. They simply trust the cloud service providers to have a backup system in place which in most cases is not true!
“While almost all SaaS vendors explicitly state that protecting data is the customer's responsibility, infrastructure, and operations. (I&O) leaders usually send critical data to those providers without any plan for ensuring data resiliency. Back up SaaS data or risk losing customers, partners, and employees. Stop leaving the door open to data loss and start proactively protecting cloud data before it's too late. “- Forrester
COVID-19 and the shift to a WFH model have no doubt accelerated the shift to a cloud-first model for office productivity apps. According to BetterCloud’s 2021 SaaSOps report, SaaS app usage among businesses has increased by 38%, from an average of 80 SaaS apps in 2020 to 110 SaaS apps in 2021.
Although infrequent, Google Workspace customers do experience occasional outages. Google Drive and other Google apps were down on 9th August 2022. Gmail and Drive were down for some customers worldwide on 20th August 2020 and in the US on March 26th, 2020. In 2019, some Google Workspace apps were down once in June 2019 and later in August 2019. When your business runs on Google Workspace, being cut off from these services can be a productivity killer.
Note: We have reviewed only cloud backup apps and left out vendors that back up Google Workspace data on-premise at customer locations or those using specialized hardware.
